Book Description

How long will she stay in that space in between?

The day Julia Salinger admits to her girlfriends she has a drinking problem, she vows to do something about it. Spending time in a recovery center helps. So does attending AA meetings and therapy. But the thing that saves her, day after day, is fixing breakfast for strangers.

It’s routine. It gets her out of bed every morning.

While she and her husband, Mark, had dreams of operating their Old Louisville B&B together, her drinking put an end to that dream—and their marriage. And while Mark still shares in the business venture, the running of the inn is Julia’s responsibility.

And all goes well, until it doesn’t. Mark gives her an ultimatum—get her act together or he’s taking over the B&B.

Julia decides her best therapy is the beach and heads to Tuckaway Bay for solace, healing, and her girlfriends. A secluded cottage at the end of the Sea Glass Inn Resort becomes her sanctuary, where she lets very few people into her life for weeks—except for the older man who fishes in front of her cottage every day.

Trigger Warning: Addiction, loss of a child

About the Series

The Tuckaway Bay series is upmarket women’s fiction that delves into the heart of women’s journeys—stories of resilience, reinvention, and rediscovery against the backdrop of a small coastal town. Each novel explores the unbreakable bonds of female friendship and sisterhood as women face life’s pivotal moments. With deeply emotional storytelling, the series invites readers to walk alongside women who gather strength from one another when life doesn’t go as planned.

Great Continuation, Does NOT Disappoint

The Space in Between: Julia's Story is the second book in Ms. Jaimes' Tuckaway Bay Series. This book continues with the lives of 6 women friends since college as they navigate their adult lives and adult problems focusing on Julia but with most of the others also appearing. Julia's story begins immediately after leaving the last book's Beach Week. After admitting to her friends that she does have a drinking problem and needs help, Julia checks herself into a Rehab Center. It is at this Rehab Center she gets sober and learns about AA Meetings and just how important they are. We learn through flash backs what happened to Julia to cause her to drink and later after 280+ days sober to relapse. Julia returns to Tuckaway Bay, thanks to Lia and Zach's generosity, several weeks before Beach Week to get "her head straight". It is during this pre-beach week time that she meets an older gentleman, Sam, that fishes every morning on the beach right in front of her cottage. Sam suffers from PTSD himself so he and Julia have many things in common and help heal each other while falling in love. Julia's story if full of angst and all the feels. It includes another Beach Week and of course a HEA.

Multi-faceted story; love out...

Multi-faceted story; love out of obligation or love beyond measure Now that Julia has come to terms with her alcoholism, she must deal with all the other things that are going on her life: Mark, a husband who wont sign the divorce papers; the B&B which needs renovation; keeping up the daily routine; touching base with her college friends, especially Maggie; trying to satisfy her fathers need for a partner in his biz; AA meetings at least once a week or more; and the crying baby in the attic. That would drive anybody to drink! It gets worse before it gets better though. This story takes place in Louisville, KY and her refuge, Tuckaway Bay, NC. So much happens in this book which kept me on the edge of my seat sometimes and others, honestly, ready to throw my tablet across the room. Julia can be a real b!!ch. I hope that is how the author intended to write her because to me she came across that way and very self-centered. I judge a book by what I think the author intended to impart so Im going with that. Get ready for lots of angst, tears (especially when you read Veronicas diary), and a quick but satisfying ending. I enjoyed seeing what the other five college roommates are up to and hope that Ms. Jaimes keeps us abreast in the next book in this series. This was Julias book. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Booksprout.
