Small town romance with�

Small-town romance with just enough spice: Harbor Falls, NC series I love the writings of Maddie James but I have never read any of the books from this series. This one was a fun, angsty, straight-forward romance of next-door neighbors who grew up together and have always been best friends. Dr. Sam Kirk at 29yo moved back home when his mother dies leaving his much younger brother J.J. alone. He thought parenting would be a breeze but he never counted on the acting out of a teenage boy who just lost his mother. Their father had died many years before. His neighbor and best friend Lucinda aka Lucki Stevenson works with youth at the Parks Department in her town. She has dealt with boys J.J.�s age before so she tries to give Sam hints as to what to do and not do. When Sam realizes his superior intellect is not as superior as he thought and that he needed help, he accepts Lucki�s aid. This was the turning point of the whole story. I loved that the author made the major conflict their moving from friendship to something more, with some help from Missy Hawkins who goes through husbands like water through a sieve. Highly entertaining, relatively short read at about 170 print pages but so uplifting. If you like small-town romance with all its busy-body neighbors having to participate, you will adore this book. I need to check out more in this series. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Booksprout.

Humorous second chance rom-com

The Heartbreaker is a humorous romantic comedy between Sam and Lucinda/Lucki who were a high school couple until he broke her heart and left their small town. Several years later, Sam, now a physician, returns home to raise his younger brother upon the death of his mother only to find Lucki, who now works with youths, living next door. Sam's philosophy of "love them and leave them" now comes back to haunt him as he decides Lucki is what he needs and wants in his life, but, he taught her a valuable lesson when he broke her heart. This well written and fun rom-com has amazing characters, a humorous plot, strong emotions, some drama, laughable situations, and a cleverly written second chance romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
